That would be a shame regarding SB 322, offered by Sen. Doug Stoner, D-Smyrna. He wants the state to create a website that shows taxpayers how their tax dollars are spent in something akin to plain English.
Those who track down the “data” that our “open” governments put out there for the public to see know it requires a degree in accounting to figure out what most of it might mean. The state’s budget is a good example. Yeah, everything is there ... you do the math.
According the Democrats, setting up such a website — basically a translation, probably into graphs, charts, etc., of what’s already out there — would cost about $250.
Plainly this would be a “budget buster,” right?
