Local ‘mathletes’ compete

Darlington Middle and Rome Middle schools were among the teams that competed at the MATHCOUNTS competition sponsored recently by the Northwest Chapter of the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers.

The winning team of David Jewell, Josue Garza, J. J. Moncus and Daniel Lee was from Dalton Middle School.

The competition was held at the Georgia Power Auditorium in Rome. The second and third place teams are LaFayette Middle School and Heritage Middle School respectively. The top individual scorer was Jordan Wileman from Heritage Middle School.

MATHCOUNTS is a national mathematics coaching and competition program and is nationally sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. It is designed to increase enthusiasm for and advance achievement in middle school mathematics throughout the United States.
