Students at Midway Primary were thinking about their fellow man recently when they donated more than 1,200 pairs of socks for the children in Haiti who survived the earthquake.

Even though this past year has been hard on many people in the United States, the students learned nothing could compare with the devastation of Haiti after the catastrophic 7.0 earthquake suffered by those living there.

New socks were collected as a meaningful way for children to help children who live this impoverished, disaster-stricken country. In music classes, the students sang with gusto and new meaning the words of the 1950s hit “Put a Little Love in Your Heart.”

The lyrics: “Think of your fellow man. Lend him a helping hand. Put a little love in your heart. You see, it’s getting late. Oh, please don’t hesitate. Put a little love in your heart. And the world will be a better place for you and me. You just wait and see.”

“I hope years from now our students remember this project and continue to be caring citizens of the community and the world,” said Diane Lumpkin, music teacher.
