Baritone Phillip Dothard will perform at Shorter College on Monday, March 22, as part of the college’s Guest Artist Series. The concert will take place inside Brookes Chapel at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge.

Dothard, a 2003 graduate of Shorter College, is a native of Cartersville. He made his professional debut at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2004 and returned in 2005 as Marullo in Rigoletto.

Dothard is also an alumnus of the Ryan Opera Center of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. While there, he sang roles in Roméo et Juliette, Dialogues des Carmélites and the title role in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia.

In 2005, he was an artist-in-residence at Tulsa Opera, and also performed with the Rome (Georgia) Symphony. Dothard has received honors and awards such as being named national winner in the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Vocalist competition, Puccini, Rossini and Da Capo awards from the Orpheus Competition; and being a two-time region finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Last summer, Dothard reprised the role of Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia with the Southern Illinois Music Festival and sang Falke in Die Fledermaus at Music by the Lake.
