Several Georgia filmmakers will step into the limelight this weekend as their films are screened during the Rome International Film Festival.

Of the 75 films being screened at the DeSoto Theatre and Heritage Hall, eight of those are by filmmakers from Georgia and three are by Rome comedy troupe The Woodcreek Faction. Those three films are “Bunny Skates,” “Recession Santa,” and “Wrong Tree, Wrong Time.”

The other Georgia films are “Elevator” by Nicole Kemper, “The Brotherhood of Men” by Rome native Tristan Griffin, “The Car Wash” by James Kicklighter, “The Tedious Existence of Terrell B. Howell” by David Silverman and “Through Sames of Am” by Robert Costello.

Many of the films will be screened twice, allowing festivalgoers to catch as many of their favorites as possible.

A highlight of the weekend will be the screening of the closing day film “Rambling Rose.” Written by Rome native, screenwriter Calder Willingham, the film is just one part of a special evening which will include the visit of the film’s director Martha Coolidge as well as a Calder Willingham family reunion and memorabilia display.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 at the DeSoto Theatre.

“Another event we’re really excited about is a music block of two films,” Musselwhite added. We have two wonderful music documentaries. One features some of the greatest guitarists in the world in a concert documentary situation and the other is about a custom guitar maker Wayne Henderson who makes guitars for such names as Eric Clapton.”

The two films will be screened on Sept. 10 and will be repeated on Sept. 11.

There will also be a free seminar for aspring filmmakers on Sept. 11 starting at 1 p.m. Titled “How To: Georgia Filmmaking,” the seminar will feature best-selling author and producer Eric Haney as well as Shae Griffin.
