2012 rainfall deficit nearly 10 inches

Although December was a wet one for Floyd County it still wasn’t enough to overcome a rainfall deficit for 2012.

According to the National Weather Service, 6.24 inches of rain was reported at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport in Armuchee during the month of December. That was well above the 4.61 inch normal for the month, but the 12-month total is not as positive.

The NWS reported total rainfall of 44.79 inches for the year, nearly 10 inches below the 54.25 annual average for the county.

The good news is that more rain is on the way, although many people don’t particularly like the gray skies.

Today: Showers. High near 51. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tonight: Showers likely, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 39. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 51. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Wednesday night: A 20-percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Calm wind.

Thursday: A 20-percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 49.

Friday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 24.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 50.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 28.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 55.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 55.
