From a yard-bound heap to a gleaming powder blue and white vision of perfection, locals Julian Nix and Bill Horsley spoke with pride about their rejuvenated project.

“I tell you how bad this was — they just gave it to us,” Nix said.

The convertible 1955 Oldsmobile 88 is a spotless representation of the work that went into a majority of the autos at the eighth annual Classic Car Show and Swap Meet.

“It drives just like it did in ’55,” Nix said. “And if you know what that means, it means it drives good.”

It’s a trip back in time for people who have had one of the cars Nix said, they’ll just look at it, and you can see the memories rocket back into their heads.

“Sometimes they just talk about their old car,” Nix said. “I do it too.”

One sparkling red 1935 Ford, that shared an infamous reputation with others of its make, stood out from the crowd.

“That’s the Bonnie and Clyde car,” said owner Ernest Brownlow, who owns a local trucking company.

A friend piped up joking they just slapped some filler in the bullet holes left by federal agents that cornered the infamous outlaw couple.

“I don’t know if there was enough car left to bondo that car back together,” Brownlow joked.

Pat Nixon’s 1954 white Ford pickup won best in show.

Guest TV and radio personality Sam Memmolo of the Two Guys Garage and said you can’t really find anything better than “car people.”

Volunteer opportunities, like the car show, allow Memmolo to do what he loves best — talk about cars.

“Americans love their cars,” he said. “You can see a cross section of American history here and really when it comes down to it people put their personality into these cars.”

All proceeds from the annual car show in the Church of Northside’s parking lot benefit community and charitable causes.
