The United Way of Rome & Floyd County will use the contribution to support programs that create long lasting change in the local community. The United Way is dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good, as is evident from the work the United Way of Rome & Floyd County is doing in Georgia. In fact, three out of every four families in Rome and Floyd County are touched by United Way supported agencies. For example, in the past year, more than 100 families received basic needs after a devastating home fire and more than 500 children have a safe, positive place to go after school.
“The mission of United Way of Rome and Floyd County is to focus and unite our entire community to create significant lasting change that positively impacts people’s lives,” said Rich Lampkin, Executive Director of UWRF. “AT&T’s support allows us to target our community’s most serious problems, and then focus on the underlying causes of those issues to ensure a stronger, healthier community.”
“United Way is a critical part of our community that truly is a catalyst for change and a convener of partnerships,” said Evie McNiece, Mayor of Rome. “With the support of great corporate citizens like AT&T, the United Way of Rome and Floyd County helps so many people and keeps our communities moving forward.”
In addition to this contribution, each year AT&T employees take part in an employee giving campaign that provides millions of dollars to the United Way. In 2011, AT&T employees, including employee members of the Communication Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Telecommunications International Union, pledged $33.8 million through this campaign.
“AT&T shares United Way’s commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives,” said Don Barbour, AT&T Georgia Regional Director of External Affairs. “The United Way of Rome & Floyd County’s support for programs with proven results in our community improves the lives of our citizens
by connecting them with resources and expertise that helps them succeed."
