Rome artist James Schroeder will display several new pieces of pop art during an exhibition at All Things Artistic starting on Friday.

The show will feature 30 pieces by the 26-year-old Schroeder, including several new pieces.

His work has been on display at several Rome locations. Schroeder describes his art as pop art with an abstract, humorous side.

“I also bring literature and creative writing into it,” he said. “Especially lately, with the use of visual palimpsest.”

Schroeder has been painting for the past four years using mostly spray paint and stencils. He began making T-shirts four years ago and after a trip to England began to work on canvas and vinyl records.

Lately, he has been working with text as a background for his painting, using either tape or paint markers. He has participated in several local festivals and has been part of shows at Berry College, Shorter College, and Rome Area Council for the Arts.

His influences range from abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock, graffiti artist Banksy, and author Tom Robbins. Schroeder is a history teacher and soccer coach at Model High School.

The exhibit will be up from 10 a.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday.

There will be an opening reception Friday at 7 p.m. where the public can view the show and speak with the artist.

All Things Artistic is located at 522 Broad St.
