All but one incumbent wins in Cartersville elections

All but one incumbent won in Cartersville on Tuesday, where only 8.9 percent of the city’s estimated 16,093 registered voters turned out for City Council and school board contests.

In three contested school board races, the three incumbents will return to office.

In the City School Board Ward 2 race, Kenneth Topham Jr. defeated Floyd Braid by a 77 percent to 23 percent margin, taking 199 votes to Braid’s 61 votes.

In the Ward 5 race, challenger David Apple earned 55 percent of the vote to beat incumbent Rodney Abernathy 168-138.

In the Ward 6 school board race, incumbent Kelley Dial received 85 percent of the vote to top Dennis Baker by a 99-18 vote margin.

In the City Council Ward 1, Kari Dawn Hodge collected 73 percent of the vote to top William (Bill) M. Murphy Jr. by a 115-43 margin.

In Ward 3, incumbent Louis E. Tonsmeire Sr. defeated Hoyt Hatfield 280-266, earning 51 percent of the vote.

In the City Council Ward 5 contest, incumbent Dianne E. Tate collected 64 percent of the vote, to defeat Thomas (Tommy) Hall 199-113.

Cartersville Mayor Matthew J. Santini ran unopposed, collecting 1,282 votes and City School Board Ward 1 incumbent Michael Dean also ran unopposed, collecting 131 votes.

ADAIRSVILLE: Connie M. Morrow beat incumbent Carla Fowler for the City Council Post 3 seat, earning 56.5 percent and winning by a 194-149 margin.

For the City Council Post 4, incumbent Buddy Bagley won with 59.6 percent of the vote over challenger Jeremy D. Schwanbeck 198 to 134.

EUHARLEE: In the mayoral race, incumbent Kathy S. Foulk won with 61 percent of the vote, beating out Michael Miller 219-140.

In the City Council race, Sammy L. Carden won one of the two seats, gaining 32.2 percent of the vote in the four-person race. He had 214 votes to secure a seat, while incumbent Joseph Turner got 201 votes, or 30.2 percent, to win the other seat.

KINGSTON: In the mayoral race, Dexter Jones rolled past G.B. Hood, taking 75.4 percent of the vote and winning the total votes 138-43.

In the Post 2 City Council race, Billy Sanders won a tight race against Harold Posey, taking 52.8 percent and winning the votes 94-84.

Post 1 incumbent Louise Howell ran unopposed and got 132 votes. In Post 4, Ed Miklas ran unopposed and garnered 124 votes.

WHITE: In the mayoral race, incumbent Chris Allen beat Andy Heath 94-75, earning 55.6 percent of the vote.

In the White City Council race, incumbents Dennis Huskins and David Richards beat out three challengers to keep their seats in the at-large race. Huskins had 112 votes, or 34.7 percent of the vote, while Richards had 80 votes, or 24.8 percent.
