The Downtown Development Authority’s first offering on Sept. 7 drew more than 1,000 people to the free concert. That was the last First Friday concert planned for the year, but DDA Chairman Steven McDowell said Thursday it succeeded well beyond expectations.
“The promotions committee met yesterday and decided they wanted to do one grand finale,” he said. “We’ve proved these block parties can be a safe, fun, family-friendly environment, and they’re a great way to celebrate downtown Rome.”
The gala is planned for 7 to 10 p.m. on Oct. 26.
The Alcohol Control Commission has called a special meeting for 4:30 p.m. Monday to consider the proposal. The ACC must give permission for attendees to drink alcohol outside along Broad Street.
