The Armuchee Middle School competition cheerleaders were on hand to help Sam's Club of Rome celebrate their grand re-opening on Friday morning. The team was not at the celebration of the opening of the newly remodeled store to shop but to take home a big check for $1,000. The cheerleaders and their coaches were presented with the check as one of the community winners of the Walmart Foundation's Local Community Contribution/Hunger Outreach Grant Program.

Beth Wardlaw, coach of the Armuchee Middle competition cheerleaders, submitted the grant application with hopes of improving the groups equipment used for practice and competition. She said, "Our program is important because it helps build self esteem in young ladies, teaches leadership, encourages team work, and builds pride in our community and in themselves." The team will use the money to purchase mats for the competition cheerleading program at Armuchee Middle School.

According to the Walmart Foundation's website, the purpose of the program is to help people live better in the communities served by Sam's Club and Walmart. Beth Broadway, of Sam's Club, said, “Our club and our associates are a part of the Rome community, and by helping our local organizations, we continue to give back.”

The Armuchee Middle cheerleaders helped the club to re-open their doors by leading a cheer for S-A-M-S as they opened the club's doors.
