ATLANTA (AP) — Zoo Atlanta officials are celebrating the birth of a baby gorilla.

Officials say Lulu, a 13-year-old western lowland gorilla, gave birth to a newborn Thursday evening. The baby gorilla Lulu's first surviving offspring and is the grandchild of Zoo Atlanta's legendary gorilla Willie B.

The mother and child may be seen in their outdoor habitat as early as Saturday and the zoo's Animal Management and Veterinary Teams are monitoring the mother and child closely.

Zoo Atlanta houses the largest gorilla collection in North America and Lulu's infant is the 19th gorilla to be born at the zoo since 1988.
