Jay Shell is a bit nervous this week — and with good cause. His new venture, The Brewhouse Music and Grill, officially opens Friday on Broad Street.

The Brewhouse will be a restaurant, bar and music venue. And for the grand opening, Shell brings hard rocking 80s cover band the Velcro Pygmies to entertain the local crowd.

“We’ve already been open for a couple days and the draught system will be up and running tonight,” Shell said. “We’ve got new staff and a new building. I feel good about it but I’m really nervous. I want everything to go well. The best scenario will be that there’s a minimum wait for our customers.”

Shell hopes the brew-pub menu — included brats, philly cheese steaks, wings and the much-hyped Brewhouse Burger — along with popular musical guests will offer “good, working class folks” a place to relax, enjoy a drink and listen to some good tunes.

The building features a front room for dining which includes the main bar. This room will be a dining room till 10 p.m. when the doors to a back room will be opened and the entire space will become one big music venue.

Shell said Friday’s performance by the Velcro Pygmies will be the perfect way to celebrate Brewhouse’s grand opening. The band brings every bit of the 80s back to their audiences with everything from their on-stage costumes to the ballads and anthems of decades gone by.

“We’re bringing one of the most famous 80s cover bands in the Southeast,” he said. “I think it’ll be a great show. People my age will recognize all these songs, all these great hair band tunes.”

The pygmies will take the stage around 10:30 p.m.

Shell already has booked an Oct. 25 Brewhouse performance by Florida Georgia Line, whose song “Cruise” climbed as high as No. 4 on the iTunes country music chart this summer.

The Brewhouse Music and Grill is located at 325 Broad St.
