Gregory gave a presentation on back yard wildlife. He said black bears and raccoons love to eat bird-seed out of bird feeders and that there are many bob-cats, foxes and coyotes in Floyd County. However there are no cougars in this area. He emphasized to keep wild animals wild by not leaving food out and by not providing a place for habitat.

Alice Andrews, treasurer, reported the club had received a check from the Coosa Valley Fair Association for ribbons won by members. Doris Schultz, horticulture chairman, announced that the winners were: Andrews: Five blue, one red and two white. Ann Bradfield: One blue, two red and one yellow. Suzanne Field: One blue, two red and two white. Marion Richards: Two blue, two red and one white. Adine Shepherd: 11 blue, seven red, three yellow and two white. Shepherd, from the awards Committee, reported the club was presented the first place national award certificate for the Blue Star By Way Memorial Marker at the Laurel District meeting in Hiawassee on Oct. 22. Peggy Eason, Suzanne Field, Marion Richards and Doris Schultz attended the meeting. Eason, past president, accepted the award presented by Betty Grimes, president of the Garden Club of Georgia.

Civic Chairman Ann Harris said she and Shepherd planted pansies in the garden plot and placed a colored ribbon on the sign as a seasonal accent.

Andrews, garden therapy chairman, reminded members to bring decorated Christmas stockings and items for the Fig Leaf project, for Clients at Northwest Regional Hospital, to the next meeting.

Bradfield, membership and program chairman, distributed the new 2010 Garden Club of Georgia Calendars and also announced the November/December meeting would be held at the Victorian Tea Room on Dec. 7.
