A police chase that started in Calhoun this evening ended in a fatal crash in eastern Gordon County.

According to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office:

A Calhoun city policeman attempted to stop a vehicle in the city, but the driver drove off, leading the officer on a chase through the city. A sheriff's deputy attempted to block the fleeing vehicle on East Line Street, where the suspect left the roadway and drove across Fain Cemetery.

Deputy sheriffs and state troopers joined the pursuit as it east on Red Bud Road through the Crane Eater and Red Bud communities, eastward toward Ranger.

At the intersection of State Route 156 and U.S. 411, the fleeing vehicle turned left, traveling north on U.S. 411, where a deputy sheriff pulled alongside the suspect vehicle in an attempt to stop it.

The suspect drove his vehicle into the deputy's car and then lost control, crossing into the path of an oncoming truck and camper. A head-on collision resulted in the suspect driver being ejected from his automobile.

The driver of the truck/camper was slightly injured. The driver who fled from the police was pronounced dead at Gordon Hospital.

The collision is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol. The identity of the driver who was killed is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Thank You Calhoun Police, Gordon County Sheriff Department and the Georgia State Patrol for taking this Idiot of the streets for good. My wife and kids travel these roads and I don't need this late fool on the roads around them. I'm glad the other driver in the camper wasn't hurt.
