The Cave Spring Christmas Day of Sharing was a successful event for the fourth consecutive year, but organizer Kathron Crider said there is still a need throughout the year for quality clothing items for the community clothes closet.

Crider said she operates the clothes closet year-round, and there is still a need for good quality donated clothing items to help those who are less fortunate. Anyone interested in donating clothing items — or helping with monetary donations for next year’s Thanksgiving and Christmas Days of Sharing — should contact her at 706-331-8310.

Crider, her husband and a dedicated group of volunteers fed many who have come across hard times during the annual Day of Sharing at the Hearn Academy.

“We fed over 250 people, and I think we had around 150 kids’ pictures with Santa,” she said.

Crider said the economy also played a role in the makeup of patrons.

“We had a lot of people this year that didn’t appear to be the normal ones that attend something like this,” she said. “You could tell this was something they had never had to do before, but they were all so appreciative and very grateful.”

Crider said the few leftover food and paper good items she had left were taken this week to the Community Kitchen in Rome.
