Shaver said he has no money in his budget for school resource officers but “since the schools have come back from the holidays, we have had a deputy working every day on their off days visiting the different schools.”
He told the Cherokee County Board of Education he’s forming a committee composed of educators, public officials, parents and others to come up with recommendations and asked for the board’s participation.
Shaver said he’s requested funds for resource officers every year since 2007, but has had to resort to grants — which are becoming less available.
