A public hearing also is scheduled on Andrew Firestone’s proposed remodeling of the vacant Oakdene neighborhood house on the corner of Second Avenue and East Sixth Street for use as an office.
The Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission is recommending approval of the rezoning, to neighborhood-office-commercial from high-density traditional residential.
The board caucuses at 5 p.m. and starts its regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall, 601 Broad St. Both sessions are open to the public.
City commissioners are expected to authorize Rome Mayor Evie McNiece to execute a right-of-way agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation that will allow replacement of the Crescent Avenue bridge.
The old one-lane bridge — the only access to a neighborhood of 37 homes off Cave Spring Road — cannot safely support the weight of fire trucks, school buses and other heavy vehicles.
Commissioners also are scheduled to award a contract to Phillip Burkhalter Builders to redevelop the Midtown Transit Station on East First Street.
The Downtown Development Authority engineered a property swap with First Presbyterian Church that will add 35 public parking spots and give the church extra space at its Christian Life Center.
