Mina Garcia and Peyton Brock, both 13, laughed and caught their breath as they walked down the exit ramp of the ride known as The Mega Drop.

“It was scary going up but then you drop and it wasn’t that big of a deal,” Garcia said.

“You were screaming all the way down,” Brock responded in a surprised tone.

The Mega Drop is the newest ride to come to the Coosa Valley Fair this year and the consensus from most Thursday who took the plunge from high above the midway was that it is a hit.

The fair, which continues through Saturday, includes classic attractions like the Ferris wheel, Tilt-A-Whirl and carousel, but for thrill seekers there are rides with names like Extreme, Screamer and Gravitron.

“There are a lot of great rides here,” said Dylan Bennett, 14, who rode The Mega Drop with his friends. “It wasn’t that bad going up but when you come down … it’s like your stomach flips upside down.”

Candice Casteel, 18, said she had not been to the fair in five years and was working to get the most out of it.

She and Gabe Haney, 18, were stepping off of the Screamer, which takes riders back and forth before swinging them upside down.

“My stomach just drops,” Casteel said. “It’s like an adrenaline rush. It’s so awesome.”

Haney said he pretty much enjoys all of the rides at the fair every year but has always like the Gravitron since he was a kid.

“You spin around and get pushed up against the wall and try to fight against it,” Haney said.

Cousins Victoria and Katy Ingram had just experienced The Mega Drop and had decided that it was their favorite ride — so far.

“The worst part is sitting at the top not knowing when you’re going to come down,” said Victoria, 14.

Katy, 11, said she got a good scare when she took her hands off of her shoulder harness just as it started to drop.

“It’s different, and I like it,” Victoria said. “It’s the only ride so far that really gets my stomach.”

By the time she had finished her review, Victoria and Katy were in line for another ride, ready to keep the thrills coming.
