Owners Garrett Jones and Brantley Wilson of Cornerstone Concrete Development LLC, answer the questions for today’s Small Business Snapshot.

What is the primary purpose of your business?

The primary purpose of our business is to provide quality craftsmanship for any type of concrete need – for example, pool decks patios, or flooring. Even though we specialize in decorative concrete surfaces – such as stained floors and stamped designs, we also love to provide conventional concrete finishes as well.

What is your business background?

Brantley Wilson paid his way through college working for a decorative concrete company out of Canton. He graduated in 2006 with a business degree from Kennesaw State University. Garrett Jones attended a junior college in Wilson, N.C. to become a construction specialist and foreman and ended up tying steel and pouring concrete on bridge decks in Asheville, N.C. Later, Garrett held a project manager position for a large infrastructure company out of Cumming.

Why did you start this particular business?

We started this particular business due to our love – of all things – concrete! Also, we saw a need for a concrete company that cared for the customer and would take the time necessary with a client to obtain their vision for their concrete no matter how complex or simple it may be.

What makes your business unique?

We feel we are unique in our service and attention to detail. Whether it is the design for the stained floor in your basement or the color and pattern of your pool deck, your vision is important to us. We get excited when we have a client come to us and say, “get creative!” Concrete does not have to be boring, so why let it?

What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession?

Honestly, the most enjoyable part has been meeting all kinds of unique and caring people. Over the years we have been very fortunate to meet and establish relationships with so many different individuals and families. Doctors, lawyers, pilots, even fellow small business owners have been our customers. Each project has been unique and memorable because of our clients.

What has been the biggest challenge to overcome as a small business owner?

We would say the biggest challenge over the years has been all the red tape that goes along with owning a small business. You can never fully prepare yourself, or your checkbook, for tax meetings and the yearly insurance audits.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

We would just like to thank this community for allowing us to provide our services at your home or business over the past five years. We can’t thank you enough for your trust and friendship, and we look forward to establishing new friendships and pouring and creating unique designs with lots of concrete in the years to come!
