More than 120 dancers will be a part of The Dance Center’s holiday recital on Friday and Saturday at the Rome City Auditorium.

“The Night Before Christmas” show is a tradition at The Dance Center, going back 20 years. This year’s anniversary performance will feature a full lineup of dancing and storytelling.

Mary Beth Cauthen of The Dance Center said the show centers around “The Night Before Christmas” story but with a few additions.

“We added a prologue,” she said. “Our story begins at the North Pole at Santa’s workshop. But then our narrator brings us back to the familiar ‘Night Before Christmas story’ that we all all know.”

The result is a magical combination of dancing, costumes and story-telling. Cauthen said the show will include more than 120 dancers ranging from 5 years old to adult and they’ll be performing ballet, tap and modern pieces.

The company’s littlest dancers will be featured as dolls, elves and even reindeer.

“We also have some pieces from The Nutcracker as well,” Cauthen added. “So we think it’ll be a show that the entire family can enjoy and it’s a celebration of the holidays and of it being our 20th year putting on this production.”

The Dance Center’s “The Night Before Christmas” runs Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rome City Auditorium, 601 Broad Street.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children and students. Tickets will be available at the door.
