Downtown Christmas celebration today to include Santa, carolers, carriage and train rides
Santa at Mount Berry Square
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be back downtown again today as the Downtown Development Authority brings the Christmas spirit to Rome.
Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be walking up and down downtown’s Broad Street from noon to 2 p.m., according to Jennifer Morgan with the DDA.
“They’re handing out candy canes to the kids, waving to the public and they may be visiting some of the businesses to say hello,” Morgan said.
During Santa’s visit starting at 11 a.m., horse and carriage and kiddie train rides are being offered up and down Broad Street until 2 p.m. Rides will be departing from Mitchell Plaza next to the Rome Area History Museum.
The horse and carriage rides are $5 per person and free for children 5 and younger. The kiddie train rides, which will be going up and down the sidewalks of Broad Street, are $2 for children and $1 for adults.
Individuals can purchase photographs of themselves from the carriage tours for $5 for a 4-by-6 inch shot.
Santa also visited Mount Berry Square mall Friday night with his reindeer to help kick off the holiday season.
Santa will be at the mall during its regular hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the holiday season.
The mall will be closed for Thanksgiving, but will reopen for black Friday at 4 a.m. and will be open until 10 p.m.
The 50th Christmas in November bazaar also continues today at the Rome Civic Center, located on Jackson Hill, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items on sale include handmade ornaments, clothes, cakes, cookies, pies and more made by the Floyd County Homemakers and Blossom Hill Homemakers Club will be sold. Admission and parking are free.
