Driver in fatal crash identified

CEDARTOWN — The Cedartown man killed in a fatal car crash Saturday night has been identified, according to officials.

Brian R. Mathis, 37, of Antioch Road, was killed in a one-vehicle wreck, according to Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey and Georgia State Patrol officials.

GSP reports state the crash happened at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday on Antioch Road. Mathis was driving his 1998 Toyota Tacoma when he ran off the road and struck a tree, reports state.

He died from injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. Mathis was the only one in the vehicle. He was not wearing his seat belt, reports said.
