In the ongoing large-scale repairs of downtown sidewalks on the east side of Broad Street, the inlay brickwork as well as the concrete is being replaced by Spriggs Construction. Apparently Kirk Milam, the director of public works, was able to detect that the brick design used as a border at the corner of East Third Avenue was not exactly laid out as before even though the bricklayers had been given the original drawings to follow.
Hence, a do-over of the do-over became necessary without, Milam was quick to add, it costing the taxpayers any more money to fix this mistake.
Detecting that a different color of brick had been used perhaps most residents would have spotted as well ... but the pattern? The layout of what amounts to the gingerbread touches on a Victorian mansion? That’s some sharp eye Milam has.
