A proposed change to the sign ordinance, repairs at State Mutual Stadium and discussion of a new fire station location are on the Floyd County Commission’s agenda today.

Commissioners want to clarify when repairs to a damaged sign require it to be brought up to the current code. They’re expected to ask the Rome-Floyd County Planning Commission to hold a public review on the proposal.

“It’s creating a definition for major and minor repairs without attaching a dollar-figure to then,” Assistant County Manager Noah Simon said.

The board also has asked County Manager Blaine Williams for an update on the fire station that has yet to be built with collections from the 1993 special purpose, local option sales tax.

Finance Director Gary Burkhalter said there is $737,000 remaining in the SPLOST fund for the project. Original plans were to use the money to move the Wax Road station, but residents in the area objected to the loss of coverage.

Among the items on the consent agenda is a resolution agreeing to reimburse the Rome Braves for repairs to a light pole damaged in recent storms.

The board’s contract with the Braves calls for the team to perform routine maintenance at the county-owned stadium, while the county is responsible for major repairs.

The money will come from the stadium capital fund, which has been built up to more than $1 million through the county’s share of season ticket sales and the stadium’s naming rights, plus an annual fee from the Braves.
