John D. Barge, who lives in the Kingston area of Floyd County, has announced he is running as a Republican for state school superintendent, a post currently held by Kathy Cox.

“This campaign is about getting back to the basics and improving the education of our children,” he said. “We can no longer afford to sacrifice our children for goals that do not produce positive results in education. We have a moral obligation to prepare our young people for the future and the jobs that will be there for them.”

Barge currently serves as the director of secondary curriculum for the Bartow County Schools. He has previously worked at Rome and Armuchee high schools, along with the Floyd County school system and as an adjunct professor at Berry College, his alma mater.

John has the best experience for this job. From what I hear Kathy is the one who cannot take criticism. This is about our children, it is about managing a budget wisely and caring about the community. John has my vote.

I agree with jawja. This guy doesn't have a clue at all about what he is signing up to do. Hope that he can take the criticism. From what I have heard about him, he can't.

Barge might make a good superintendent, but he has no clue what he is up against in a GOP primary. Roger Hines will be your next superintendent
