MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — Funeral services are planned for Tuesday for a Marietta Fire Department employee who died while responding to a car crash.

A service for 49-year-old fire engineer Lonnie Lee Nutt will be held 11 a.m. at Roswell Street Baptist Church in Marietta.

Nutt and other firefighters were dispatched Thursday afternoon to the scene of a crash with less than a mile from their fire station. As the firefighters tried to assist an injured person, Nutt fell to the ground. Marietta Fire Marshal Scott Tucker says Nutt appears to have suffered a heart attack.

Nutt began his career in Marietta in 1994 and served as a firefighter, inspector, investigator and firefighter engineer. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
