State House representatives received their committee assignments Wednesday for the 2013-14 session of the Georgia General Assembly.

State Rep. Katie Dempsey, R-Rome, kept her spot on the powerful Rules Committee, which schedules bills for votes on the floor.

She’ll also continue to serve as chairman of the human resources subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee and as a member of the Health and Human Services; Economic Development and Tourism; Higher Education; and Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications committees.

State Rep. Christian Coomer, R-Cartersville, retained seats on the Judiciary Non-Civil Committee and Juvenile Justice Committee, which is the new name for the Children and Youth Committee.

He’ll no longer serve on the Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee, but he has new postings to the

Banks and Banking Committee and as vice chairman of the Retirement Committee.

Coomer is a floor leader for Gov. Nathan Deal, selected to help shepherd Deal’s bills through the Legislature.

State Rep. Eddie Lumsden, R-Rome, is starting his first year in office.

He drew assignments to the Insurance, Public Safety and Homeland Security and Budget and Fiscal Oversight committees.

Lumsden owns an insurance agency and is a retired Georgia State Patrol trooper.
