The ailing turtles were scheduled to arrive by plane Monday at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center on Jekyll Island. They were being treated at the New England Aquarium, but needed to be moved because of overcrowding.
Officials say the Boston aquarium has been taking in dozens of rescued sea turtles suffering from cold stunning, which is similar to hypothermia and happens when water temperatures drop below 50 degrees.
Veterinarians at the Georgia center made room for six to eight Kemp's ridley and loggerhead sea turtles.
Terry Norton, executive director of the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, says his goal is to see the turtles all return to the wild.
