Georgia Power Co. crews are headed north to Maryland to lend assistance to Baltimore Gas and Electric before Hurricane Sandy makes landfall this week, according to media spokeswoman Carol Boatright.

About a dozen trucks dispatched from Atlanta, four from Rome and four from Athens on Sunday morning. Crews planned to spend the night in Virginia and continue to Maryland today.

The crews are moving into place so they will be close to help with any power outages the storm causes. Depending on the severity of the storm, Georgia Power could supply additional assistance later on, Boatright said.
