John Barge
Superintendent John Barge will join members of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus during the meeting Thursday morning in Macon City Hall. The Macon Telegraph reports that state Rep. Nikki Randall, Sen. Miriam Paris and Rep. James Beverly are expected to attend.
Barge, a Republican, has gone against members of his own party in opposing a constitutional amendment on the ballot next month that would allow Georgia to create more charter schools. Barge came out against the amendment in August, saying it threatens local control and state financial support for traditional schools.
Gov. Nathan Deal and other Republicans support it.
