Georgians to pay 8 percent sales tax for online purchases

Internet shoppers in Georgia have not had to pay taxes on many goods purchased online, but those days are over due to a change this week in the state's tax code, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle broadcast partner WXIA-TV.

Until now, Internet shoppers on national sites such as Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN), Overstock (Nasdaq: OSTK) and Zappos have been exempt from paying the 8 percent Georgia state sales tax since those retailers did not have brick-and-mortar locations in the state of Georgia.
