A Silver Creek woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter died Sunday from injuries they received in a two-vehicle wreck on Ga. 101. Four others injured in the wreck were treated and released.
According to Dale Johnson of the Floyd County Police Department:
Myrna P. Westmoreland, 62, was driving northbound with her two grandchildren when a Nissan Pathfinder headed toward Rockmart crossed over the center line, smashing into her Toyota Corolla.
Traffic was backed up for about half a mile on Ga. 101 near Harmony Road as police worked to clear the scene of the wreck, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m.
Westmoreland of 470 Pleasant Hope Road was taken to Floyd Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 6:03 p.m., said deputy coroner Ernie Studard.
Her granddaughter, Courtney Westmoreland, of 237 Flora Ave., Rome, died at 2:50 p.m., Studard said.
A 4-year-old grandchild of Westmoreland was treated and released at FMC, but Johnson said he could not release the victim’s name.
The driver of the Pathfinder, a 34-year-old female, and two children in the vehicle, a 3- and 5-year-old, were also treated and released.
Officer Johnson would not release the names of the occupants of the Pathfinder, saying charges were pending in the case.
The woman and her granddaughter were the second and third victims to die in February from injuries received in wrecks in Floyd County.
On Feb. 4, Joshua Harlin Hulsey, 65, of Cedartown died from injuries he received in a Jan. 30 wreck. Hulsey lost control of his car causing it to flip over on U.S. 27, near Floyd College
