Halloween is less than a week away, and around Floyd County there are plenty of events that will thrill and chill area residents to the bone.

From a haunted house to trick-or-treating in downtown Rome, there’s plenty for both adults and children to experience before, during and after Halloween.

Halloween Activities on the Farm

From babies who can’t crawl to toddlers to teens-too-old for Trick-or-Treating, the farm has activities appropriate for all ages, said owner Tammy Pritchard.

“We have a more laid back atmosphere and we offer more activities for the kids,” she said.

Pritchard Farm is located at 514 Taylorsville Road in Aragon. They charge $10 for each person for a horror hayride and $5 admissions during the day for hayrides and an evening bonfire.

Children activities include a fall pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, horse and pony rides, a petting zoo, a mining sluice and concessions. Each arts and craft activity cost under $10.

The farm is open daily through Halloween from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, they are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. And on, Sunday they are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The 25-minute Hayride of Horror tour will offer a swamp theme through 60 acres of back woods area. Riders will come face-to-face with werewolves, encounter swamp monsters and other spooky sights only visible through strobe lights.

Tours will be the this weekend on Friday and Saturday. The rides will begin at dark and will run until 11 p.m. The Pritchard family does not recommend the ride for children 8-years-old and younger.

Scary Berry

Scary Berry is back. This year for the annual walking trail, taking place Oct. 29-31 on the college campus.

Jacob Hammond, president of Berry’s Block and Bridle Club, said that this year the haunted trail around Victory Lake would feature frightening characters looking to scare people to the bone.

“People will run chainsaws and wear masks,” Hammond said. “The idea is to really scare people.”

Hammond said the cost for walking the trail will be $6 for the general public, and $4 for Berry students and staff and children 12 and younger. The loading area for the hayride to the trailhead around what was once Victory Lake will be behind Herman Hall.

The schedule for Scary Berry will be 8 to 11 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. to midnight Friday and 8 to 1 a.m. on Halloween.

Hallowed Hauntings

Urban legends, myths and superstitions aren’t just stories in our head.

Let your imagination run wild at Rome’s Chieftains Museum’s special Halloween storytelling event, Hallowed Hauntings. The event will only be offered Halloween night.

Stories will be told by the Seven Hills Tellers and seating is limited. Younger kids’ stories will start at 8 p.m., while the PG-13 stories begin at 9 p.m. Adults-$5, students-$2, $1 discount for Chieftains members.

Trick-Or-Treating In Downtown Rome — Children dressed in their best costumes will be downtown on Halloween going to participating businesses for the annual tradition of trick-or-treating in downtown Rome.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at participating businesses, children will be able to go to get their fill of candy and other treats in the downtown area.

At Mount Berry Square — Trick or Treating will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. at Mount Berry Square on Halloween day.
