Six years and one serious economic recession later, Triple P Properties and Horizon Hospitality Management are nearing completion of a six-story Hampton Inn on Ga. 140 East in Adairsville.

Triple P Properties acquired the 2.5 acre parcel east of the Interstate 75 interchange in Adairsville six years ago and started the hotel about the same time that Cabela’s indicated that it was going to build a massive outdoor gear shop in Adairsville.

First Cabela’s bailed out on the project, then the economy went south, and for the better part of four years a one-story shell of a hotel sat seemingly abandoned on the site.

Then, earlier this year, construction resumed, and the Horizon Hospitality Management website indicates that the hotel is expected to open sometime in the first quarter of 2013.

Ellen Archer, executive director of the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention Bureau, said the hotel would be the first to open in Adairsville in 20 years.

“I think the market is ripe for it,” Archer said.

Adairsville Mayor Evan King said the new hotel would be a nice complement to the existing hotels in the town.

“We are looking forward having a nice, upscale Hampton Inn facility with the amenities Hampton offers,” King said.

Al Patel said that, to his knowledge, the new 79-room hotel would be the tallest commercial property in Bartow County.

“We’re replacing another Hampton in Calhoun,” Patel said. “It will switch flags once we open this one. It’s already sold and once we open this one, that one goes to another name.”

The Adairsville hotel will feature an indoor heated pool, an expanded fitness center and suites featuring Hi-Definition flat screen televisions and other amenities.

The lobby and continental dining area features a two-story atrium, however the new Hampton Inn will not have dedicated meeting or conference rooms.

The company’s website also lists seven projects under development, including the Adairsville project and a new Fairfield Inn and Suites in Calhoun, slated to open in the third quarter of 2013. All but one of the Horizon Hospitality properties are a Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn & Suites, or Holiday Inn Express. The lone property outside of that group is a LaQuinta Inn in Acworth.

The Bartow County Tax Commissioner’s office has been billing the property based on land value alone for the past six years. The property was assessed this year for $329,400.
