Kim Clark of Initially Twisted is answering the questions for this week's Small Business Snapshot

What is the primary purpose of your business? We try to have a store where customers can come in and have affordable choices,  and the opportunity to personalize their own personal clothing or accessories and gift items.

What is the business background of the owners? I’ve been in sales on and off pretty much all my life.  This started out as a hobby and has turned into a fun way to make a living.

Why did you start (or purchase) this particular business? I feel like I am a pretty creative person and a lot of my friends are as well.  I wanted a business where I could display my own ideas and let my customers see how they can create similar items of just about any description, whether it’s with text or art.

What makes your business unique?  Everything is custom. You can put your own ideas on everything in the store.  We can do monograms, we actually do custom wreaths, custom wall designs for childrens rooms, or family rooms, anything that has to do with putting your own special twist on something.

What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession? The creativity.  Customers come in and I love seeing their smiles when I help them create something special of their very own. Just seeing those smiles when they have translated an idea into something special that they can hold makes it all worth while.

What has been the biggest or most interesting challenge to overcome as a small business owner? The economy. The economy has put a whammy on all of us.  We’ve not been able to expand with additional merchandise like we would like to be able to do.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? We have custom music boxes, where the boxes don’t just play some old song, but you can record your own voice or song and be able to change it just about every day. We do custom wood lettering that can be painted to your special color, we have t-shirts, handbags, quilted duffles, luggage, picnic items and just about all of it can be customized for you.
