Inmate charged after fight at jail

A Summerville man being held at the Floyd County Jail was charged Wednesday night for fighting with another inmate, reports stated.

According to reports from the Floyd County Jail:

Merle Lecroy Bennett, 48, of a Summerville address, was charged Wednesday at 10:20 p.m. with felony riot in a penal institution and misdemeanor battery charges after reports stated he struck another inmate many times “causing visible bodily harm.”

Bennett remained at the Floyd County Jail also on a charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
