MY DAUGHTER was driving on Shorter Avenue with her 6-year-old grandson, Gage Lemaster. They passed a man holding a sign for “food and work.” Gage said, “DeeDee, that man was homeless. We need to get him a hamburger, French fries and a drink and take it to him.”

Of course, this is what DeeDee and Gage did.

Thank you Katie for teaching Gage “compassion.”
