LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Informed voters needed at polls

THE WRITER of a recent letter “Get children involved in increasing voter turnout” makes several valid points but barely touches on the main one on this issue. The act of voting is not the major issue; becoming informed about the candidates and the issues is.

Low voter turnout reflects citizen apathy and ignorance on most things political. If citizens are unwilling to become informed about the issues and candidates, it is better that they not vote.

It is unreasonable for informed voters to have their desires rejected by votes from lazy people who just show up and cast uninformed votes.

It is one thing for citizens who cherish freedom, free enterprise, and adherence to the Constitution to be outvoted by those who actually prefer redistribution, big government, and “fairness.” It is quite another, however, for them to lose their freedom because voters choose the cool candidate they think would be more enjoyable to have a beer with.

What evidence do you have that the electorate is going to make a mistake on 6 November?

Just because it looks like they are not voting for the guy who you think they should doesn't mean they are uninformed.

Maybe they do not share your worldview?

I reply: I recommend you reread the constitution..Voting is a right. You do not get to determine who is worthy by classifying those who disagree as lazy or uninformed.
