LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Will God bless America if we don’t follow his word?

GOD BLESS America was the one common theme at both political party conventions. Most of the speakers would end their speeches with “God bless America.” Each party would speak about the future if they are elected and what the future holds if they are not elected. Then they would end their speech with the phrase “God bless America” as if they would invoke God to their side.

Problem one is that it is generally understood that one party is described as being to the right and the other party is as being to the left. It is written that we are not to go to the right or to the left for evil awaits both sides.

The second problem was that the Democrats were very adept at invoking God at the end and even as an after thought added God and Jerusalem as planks in their platform. As a society that claims “In God We Trust” on our car tags, a society that claims we are a nation “under God” in our pledge of allegiance, should God be an afterthought or our foundation?

A third problem is the only time our leadership speaks of God is when it serves them. Our leadership should work to serve God first in order to better serve us. Our president wants to legitimize homosexual unions for our nation. He said he even consulted with his wife on the issue. Is that what Adam did with Eve? He followed his wife’s leading, not God’s!

A fourth problem we have as a country is the judicial decision of Roe v. Wade. As a country, we are approaching 50 million abortions. Is it even possible to imagine all the good works that we have aborted? Has anyone noticed that for every abortion that we have an illegal immigrant?

With all this said, it appears that we have rapidly become the “Sodom and Gomorrah” of the world. We abort God’s good works, evoke “God” to serve some political pandering, and what God has called an abomination, our political leadership calls acceptable. We are doing what is right in our own eyes. Sodom and Gomorrah would not have been destroyed for the sake of 10 righteous men.

It is easy to be righteous in church. It is easy to be righteous in our homes. It is even easier to be righteous in silence. Where are our 10 righteous men? We see no one proposing a righteous path let alone any righteous legislation. I pray that we have righteous people to vote for in the upcoming election, and after the election that we find ourselves being a blessing unto the Lord so that He can truly bless America.

Dwight,

I would be extremely happy if politicians stopped declaring faith and asking for the imaginary sky wizard to bless America.

However I think the chances of that occurring are very slim and none.

All in all I am happiest when government and religion do not intermingle. However that concept takes constant vigilance and harping from those who actually observe the constitution.

I reply: Vile and disgusting is your comparison of an aborting with a human. Illegal or not.

Abortion is a legal surgical procedure and the choice to have one or not is for a woman and her doctor alone...

NO ONE else has or gets a say.

Thats what you get when you mix religion and government.
