LaFAYETTE— The LaFayette Downtown Development Authority announced it has dropped the idea of launching a crafts bazaar called the Dogwood Festival in May.

The festival was scheduled to take place May 18 — the same day as the popular Music on the Square festival begun by local musicians and businessmen Josh Chapman and Mark Hise.

The DDA and Music on the Square organizers jointly decided that adding another event to the established Music on the Square would be unlikely to increase foot traffic, as attendees at music festivals and arts and crafts festivals are often not the same demographic.

Hise said he’s already booked headliners Shenandoah, Doug Stone and Dave Gibson, and craftspeople who had been planning to attend the Dogwood Festival may sign up as vendors for Music on the Square.
