The Shorter women’s lacrosse team earned the No. 1 ranking in the regular-season’s first National Women’s Lacrosse League Coaches’ Top 10 Poll released by the league on Monday.

The Lady Hawks, off to a 4-2 start, jumped three spots into a tie at No. 1 with SCAD-Savannah in the poll.

Shorter opened the season ranked No. 4, but picked up 99 votes in the latest rankings, which are voted upon by the 15 head coaches in the NWLL.

Shorter’s rise in the polls was fueled by an impressive 11-10 double overtime win over preseason No. 1 and defending NWLL champion SCAD-Savannah and an 18-6 victory over NWLL South Region foe Emmanuel.

The Lady Hawks are in Florida this week playing two exhibition games, but return to Rome on March 10 to host Pikeville on Ben Brady Field.
