The Lindale Star will be lighting up the skyline on Eden Mountain starting Wednesday at dusk and will continue to glow until January.

According to Jim Mehaffey with the Lindale Star Committee, the star will be illuminated from dusk until dawn every night through the holiday season until Jan. 2.

He said this year the committee is cutting back on when the star will shine because of the cost of the electricity bills. During the 2008 holiday season, the committee spent $864 to keep the star glowing.

“We know the economy is bad, but we do need help paying the bills,” Mehaffey said.

He’s asking anyone interested in donating to the committee to help pay the light bills to call 706-234-1667 or mail checks, payable to the Lindale Star Committee, to P.O. Box 573, Lindale, GA 30147.

Mehaffey said that any donations given to the committee are tax deductible.

The star hung for years between two smokestacks at the old Lindale Manufacturing plant.
