Local College Roundup: Schopp leads the way for Lady Hawks

The Shorter women’s golf team took third place at the NCCAA Championships. The Lady Hawks shot a two-day 638 with Dallas Baptist taking home the team championship with a 613.

Pauline Schopp (74-77-151) finished in a tie for second with Mercedes Rios from Dallas Baptist to lead the team, trailing only eventual tourney champion Erin Barrington of Dallas Baptist.

Rachel Butler (80-81-161) took 12th, and Isabella Baldacci (84-79-163) finished 15th in the field of 51 competitors.

HAMPEL LEADS BERRY

Led by freshman Ty Hampel, Berry placed seventh among 16 teams at the O’Briant-Jensen Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday.

The Vikings shot 315 on the final day. Hampel carded a 75 after shooting 77 on Monday and totaled 152.

Methodist University shot 293-285-578 to capture its record seventh O’Briant-Jensen title. The Monarchs swept the top-two places and had three golfers among the top-four finishers in the 90-student field.

The Vikings entered the day in fifth place. However, LaGrange and CNU shot the best rounds of day next to Methodist and leap-frogged Berry (307-315-622).

Other Berry scores were: Alex Elmore (74-80-154, T25); Tommy McCloskey (79-80-159, T38); Alex Irvin (81-80-161 T45); Jose Garcia (77-85).

The Vikings are now off until their season resumes in March.
