In the first game, Berry trailed 2-0 after three innings.
In the fourth, Shelby Smith (2-3) double and later scored on a fielding error by the Regals. With bases loaded, Sara Vigue (2-2, 3 RBI) tripled to left field to clear the bases and give Berry a 4-2 lead.
Jessica Washington and Holly Todd both added two hits for the Lady Vikes. Starting pitcher Caillee Shamoun tossed a complete game, got the win, and improved to 4-2. She struck out three Regals and allowed five hits.
Berry trailed 1-0 in the nightcap, but plated two runs to take 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Lacey Herring and Smith both singled to start the frame. Abbey Daniels then doubled to bring both baserunners home. Daniels had two doubles in the game.
BC reliever Natalie Boyd, however, gave up two Regal runs in the next inning. Washington went 3-4 to lead the Berry offense. She suffered her first defeat and is now 3-1.
The Vikings went 2-2 in their California road trip and come home with an 8-4 record. Cal Lutheran is now 2-12.
Berry returns to action on Saturday at Ford Field. Rhodes visits for an SAA-opening doubleheader that begins at noon.
SOFTBALL: SAA names Boyd
pitcher of the week
The Southern Athletic Association has announced the softball Pitcher of the Week for games played February 25 - March 3 and Natalie Boyd of Berry won the prize.
Boyd went 2-0 on the week in three appearances for the Lady Vikes. She tossed 11 innings, allowed 2 runs (one earned), 9 hits and 7 Ks. She got wins against Covenant and Chapman as the Vikings went 3-1 on week. Berry swept Covenant 10-0 and 8-2, and split at Chapman, 0-6 and 7-2.
