A fire at Sensogel, a gel-based foam mattress topper manufacturer, shut down operations and burned a hole in the roof after an extruding machine overheated and caught fire Saturday around noon.

According to Rome-Floyd County Fire Capt. Clete Bonney, the midday fire at 12 Redmond Court forced employees from the building but caused no injuries. He said the extent of the damage done by the fire would be unknown until a more thorough inspection of the building and machinery could be made.

Multiple units were called in - including Ladder 1, Quint 5 and 6 and Rescue 1 and others - to search the building through thick smoke.
