A man who may have been trying to help a pedestrian who’d been hit by a car Thursday was hit by another car and killed.

Frederick Cross, 61, of Chattanooga was killed on McCallie Avenue when he stopped and got out of his Dodge pickup after a pedestrian was struck by another driver, Chattanooga police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval said in a news release.

Just before Mr. Cross was killed, Dewey Edalgo of Cartersville, Ga., was hit by a Mitsubishi Lancer.
