Metropolitan United Methodist Church is celebrating its 145th anniversary this month, and this Sunday men from the congregation will serve 18 to 20 varieties of meat dishes after the morning service.

“Generally people don’t think men can cook so it’s fun to take the opportunity once or twice a year to demonstrate our skills,” said John Ware of the Men Who Cook event.

Some dishes that will be served at the event include beef brisket with pineapples and habanero sauce, jambalaya with popcorn shrimp and sausage, baked salmon, roast turkey, country roast beef with potatoes and carrots, and home-style baked ham.

Food will be available around 12:30 p.m., and tickets cost $10.

The event is open to the public and the proceeds go toward the United Methodist Church apportionments, scholarships and other outreach programs. Those wanting to purchase tickets or needing more information are invited to call 706-291-8660.
