One person received minor burns and a Taylorsville home was destroyed in a fire Thursday night.

Polk County Fire Chief Roy Anderson said units were called to the scene at 10 Mountain Breeze Road in Taylorsville around 11 p.m.

The Bartow County Fire Department first answered the call because the home is in that county, but called Polk County for help to battle the blaze.

Anderson said Polk County provided three tankers from Aragon, Fish Creek and Vinson Mountain Fire Departments, along with an engine pumper.

Some of the rural fire departments in Bartow do not have tankers to carry water to the blaze, Anderson said. He said the nearest fire hydrant was almost a half a mile away from the fire.

“That’s a long way to go and haul a hose,” Anderson said.

The tankers shuttled and dumped water into a 2,000-gallon container for firefighters to pump, he said.

The home was a three-story home, including a basement and two floors, Anderson said. He said the family was home at the time and a homeowner suffered a minor burn, but it wasn’t serious and no medical attention was needed.

No other injuries were reported.

It hasn’t been determined what sparked the blaze.
